GOOD NEWS: A mother and son from Maryland graduated college together in December.
When
he was a preschooler, Immanuel Patton promised his mother Carolyn that
they would graduate together "one day," reports Good Morning America
(GMA).
- Carolyn, 63, began a bachelor's degree in 1995 but was forced to halt her studies when "things got in the way," she told GMA.
- Immanuel,
who is now 23, said that when he was five years old, he recalls
promising his mother that “one day, it’s gonna be you and me. We’re
going to get our degrees at the same time."
- “That promise ... he never allowed it to die,” said Carolyn.
- The Pattons started classes at the University of Maryland Global Campus in 2020 and supported each other through their studies.
- On
Dec. 16, Carolyn graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in humanities
and Immanuel received a bachelor of science degree in public safety
administration.
