Today, the U.S. and EU signed an agreement to support AI research in areas like climate forecasting, health care, electric grid optimization, and emergency response.

The administrative arrangement between the White House and the European Commission is considered the first wide-ranging AI agreement between Europe and the U.S.

More:

  • The goal is to support "responsible" AI advancements to address global challenges via a joint development model and integrated research.
  • For example, the U.S. and Europe plan to build joint common AI models that would harness data from both countries without sacrificing privacy.
  • Governments would have more access to AI models and solutions in the following areas: emergency response management, extreme weather and climate forecasting, health and medicine improvements, electric grid optimization, and agriculture optimization.
  • The U.S. and EU plan to invite other countries to join the arrangement.
