BlackRock unveils a metaverse ETF

 



SOME OF THE HIGH-PROFILE COMPANIES THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE HOLDINGS ARE META PLATFORMS, APPLE INC, NVIDIA, NETEASE, AND ROBLOX

BlackRock Inc, one of the world's largest multinational investment firms, has launched a metaverse-focused exchange-traded fund (ETF).  The Blackrock ETF has a net asset value of approximately $5M and trades on the New York Stock Exchange.

  • The iShares Future Metaverse Tech and Communications ETF (IVRS) will invest in firms in the metaverse space, including virtual platforms, social media, gaming, 3D software, digital assets, and VR/AR.
  • High-profile companies included in the holdings are Meta Platforms, Apple Inc, Nvidia, Netease, and Roblox.
  • According to Reid Menge, co-portfolio manager of BlackRock Technology Opportunities Fund, the metaverse is an "immersive virtual world built on established gaming, virtual reality, and augmented reality elements." 
  • Meta's metaverse business lost more than $10B in 2021 alone, and its Reality Labs division, home to the VR projects, posted a $13.72B operating loss in 2022.
