Mass merchants are outperforming other parts of the e-commerce market. 

Mass merchants saw a 20% increase in monthly active users (MAUs) in January, according to the latest monthly e-commerce report from Brick Meets Click and Mercatus.

The latest report from Brick Meets Click and Mercatus included data from a monthly survey carried out between Jan. 30-31 that included 1,735 adults.

  • Online grocery sales in January totaled $8.4B, a drop of 1.2% year over year, according to the report.
  • Mass merchants saw a 20% increase in monthly active users (MAUs) despite grocery MAUs falling 6% overall, according to the firms' survey.
  • Brick Meets Click and Mercatus expect grocery e-commerce to see a compound annual growth rate of 11.7% over the next five years despite the slowdown after 2020 and 2021.
