Amazon flags frequently returned items

Amazon has started warning online customers about products that are frequently returned, reports Engadget.

The move comes as part of an effort to reduce online return rates, which rose to 18% in 2020, according to the National Retail Foundation (NRF).

  • Amazon has started issuing badges on listings of products that are frequently returned by online customers.
  • The product badge is reportedly not visible to all users of Amazon's platform, indicating that it may currently be in a testing phase or at the beginning of a gradual rollout.
  • Amazon spokesperson Betsy Harden told The Information that Amazon has started "showing return rate information on some product detail pages to help our customers make more informed purchase decisions."
  • Amazon's bid to reduce expenses related to online returns comes as part of a larger cost-cutting effort at the company, which faces declining sales growth.
