Ethereum's Shanghai Hard Fork update is likely to happen on April 12.
The date was agreed upon by ETH developers.
- Ethereum developers held the All Core Developers Execution Layer meeting on Thursday.
- In this meeting, they agreed on April 12, 2023, as a target date for the implementation of the Shanghai Hard Fork.
- Once
the Shanghai upgrade is completed, Ethereum will have officially
transitioned to a proof-of-stake model from the previous proof-of-work
model.
- This switch is important because validators that have
staked their ETH since The Merge have not been able to access their
rewards since 2022.
- Once their funds are unlocked, they will be able to decide what they want to do with their stake.
