The state of Washington is looking to eliminate cannabis testing for job seekers.
The Washington State Senate passed a bill that would bar companies from drug testing employees for cannabis before being hired.
Cannabis has been legal in Washington for most of the last decade, but companies have the right to test for it prior to an employee’s hire.
- The bill would allow for some exceptions, before conditional employment specifically, around some safety-sensitive positions.
- Additionally, the proposed law would still allow businesses in the state of Washington to have the option to test employees after hiring should they have drug-free workplace standards.
- The Senate-passed bill will make its way to the house committees for consideration.
