After posting gains on Friday, oil prices closed up for the second consecutive week. 

  • Brent crude gained 1.6% on the day and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 1.8%. 
  • Oil prices in the U.S. surged 9% last week. 
  • Data from the U.S. Personal Consumption Expenditure index shows that consumption rose by 0.3% in February, half of the 0.6% increase in January and less than the 0.4% increase predicted by economists.
