price of liquefied natural gas in asia

What the numbers say: Liquified natural gas (LNG) prices have dropped lower than levels seen before Russia's invasion of Ukraine last February, with LNG prices in Asia falling to a 21-month low in early April.

Context: LNG prices spiked to record highs last March after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but prices have normalized in the past six months. Germany and other European nations have struggled to adjust to the shutdown of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which transported Russian natural gas to Europe last year. As a result, Germany needs to boost imports of LNG from other countries.

What's next: Central and Eastern European nations have started partnering with other energy exporters like Turkey and Norway to secure LNG supplies.
