Boris Johnson said that during a conversation with Vladimir Putin last February the Russian president threatened to kill him with a missile.
The former British Prime Minister made the allegation during an interview for a BBC documentary about Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the lead-up to the conflict.
- Johnson said he had a long phone conversation with Putin in early February, a day after he visited Kyiv and warned Russia against launching its invasion.
- Johnson
reportedly told Putin that the war would be an "utter catastrophe" and
said it would result in "more NATO, not less NATO" near Russia's
borders.
- "He threatened me at one point, and he said, 'Boris, I
don't want to hurt you but, with a missile, it would only take a
minute' or something like that," Johnson told the BBC.
- Johnson was a strong supporter of Kyiv, sending advanced weapons including launch rocket systems and anti-ship missiles.
- He was forced to resign as British Prime Minister last July after losing support from the Conservative Party due to a series of scandals.
