Federal prosecutors are accusing Sam Bankman-Fried of witness tampering.
Lawyers have requested the judge to amend Bankman-Fried's bail conditions to stop him from communicating with current or former employees of FTX.
- Prosecutors want SBF to stop using encrypted communication devices to communicate with external parties that could affect the investigation.
- Bankman-Fried contacted the former general counsel of FTX on Jan. 15 using Signal and email in which he writes:
- "I would really love to reconnect and see if there's a way for us to have a constructive relationship, use each other as resources when possible, or at least vet things with each other."
- Prosecutors say this communication is seen as witness tampering since the counsel is identified as witness 1.
- Lawyers want to restrict SBF from using Signal and Slack, messaging apps that enable users to auto-delete messages after a certain time period.
