Liz Garbus "Harry & Meghan" vet and Oscar-nominated documentarian Liz Garbus signed on to direct a scripted drama series for ABC Signature and Hulu.   The untitled series is based on a true story, about a Midwestern couple who believe they've adopted an 8-year-old girl with a rare form of dwarfism, then start to develop dark suspicions about her actual identity and motives. Ellen Pompeo is set to star in the eight-episode series, as well as producing through her Calamity Jane banner. Garbus was Emmy nominated for directing the Season 4 finale of Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale"; she has also helmed episodes of Apple's "City on Fire" and Showtime's "Yellowjackets." The true story of Ukrainian orphan Natalia Grace Barnett -- on which the new series is based -- has also drawn comparisons to the 2009 film "Orphan" and its 2022 sequel, "Orphan: First Kill." DEADLINE
