A girl born with metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) has been cured of her deadly condition.
19-month-old Teddi Shaw is expected to live a normal life after being treated with the world's most expensive drug, Libmeldy.
- Teddi was born with MLD, a deadly congenital condition that attacks the nervous system and bodily organs.
- She became the first person to be treated with Libmeldy by the U.K.'s National Health Service (NHS).
- Libmeldy is a gene therapy that inserts functional copies of the faulty gene that causes MLD into the patient's stem cells.
- The NHS reached a deal with Libmeldy maker Orchard Therapeutics to provide the treatment to patients for less than its list price of £2.8m ($3.37M).
