A new report shows Canadian employees are adopting balancing working from home and returning to the office in a hybrid work model.

This has an impact on commercial real estate markets, and there are more vacant office spaces that need to be filled.

  • In 2009, IBM sold off office property because many employees in 173 countries worked remotely.
  • In 2017, IBM called its employees back to the office, only to send them home in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • 80% of the company’s employees prefer a hybrid work arrangement.
    • To encourage employees to return to the office, companies are offering gourmet food, coffee, and in-office activities.
