Artifact, an AI-powered personalized

Artifact, an AI-powered personalized news feed app created by Instagram founders, has been launched to the public.

The beta app appeared last month to users who provided their phone numbers after signing up on a waitlist. As of today, it's available for anyone to download on iOS or Android with no phone number required.

  • The Artifact app is the first product from Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as part of a new venture.
  • The app relies on an AI recommendation system that prioritizes time spent reading certain subjects to personalize a user's news feed.
  • It learns a user's news interests and recommends articles and posts, similar to TikTok's algorithm.
  • Artifact gained over 160,000 signups on its waitlist in less than a month.
  • According to Systrom, they've now added new features, including "profile visualization" and "popular in your network." Among articles that are popular among a user's contacts, a badge will now appear.
  • A Medium post from the Artifact team describes the app in more detail here.
