IBM has acquired StepZen, a startup offering a GraphQL server that enables developers to build GraphQL APIs using less code for an undisclosed sum.
StepZen was founded in 2020 and specializes in tools for hybrid cloud environments that store data in various locations.
- Hybrid
cloud environments have data spanning various data warehouses, lakes,
and lakehouses, as well as different cloud and on-premise environments.
APIs allow those working in hybrid cloud environments to access the data
they need to run their applications and experiences.
- GraphQL
is marketed as a simplified query language that helps companies to
interact with their data. It is said to facilitate various data calls
from a single API. According to its website, StepZen’s service enables developers to automatically build GraphQL and optimize and scale the query language.
- This
marks IBM’s first acquisition of 2023 and is part of the tech giant’s
broader strategy to boost its hybrid cloud and AI capabilities.
