iQiyi to launch VR product

HUMAN PLAYERS APPEAR AS AVATARS IN IQIYI'S IMMERSIVE LUOYANG VR EXPERIENCE, WHICH OPENED TO THE PUBLIC IN SHANGHAI IN FEBRUARY 2023.

Video streaming platform iQiyi, dubbed China's Netflix, is opening its immersive VR experience in downtown Shanghai.

The Baidu-owned iQiyi's project integrates immersive theater, VR, and physical equipment to create an immersive experience resembling a theme park ride.

  • The new product is based on iQiyi's 2021 TV drama "Luoyang," described as "a thrilling 50-minute VR-powered journey."
  • Founded in 2010, iQiyi is often compared to Netflix since the Chinese video streaming platform also sells TV series and movies to subscribers.
  • iQiyi anticipates the VR experience to attract around 40,000 visitors annually per store.
  • Besides iQiyi, other major China-based video streaming platforms include Tencent Video, Alibaba-owned Youku, and Bilibili.
  • iQiyi is owned by Baidu, China's biggest search engine company.
