Meta plans to release its next consumer headset in late 2023, according to Mark Zuckerberg.
The CEO said the headset, likely called the Quest 3, will feature full-color mixed reality.
- During
an earnings call last week, Zuckerberg said the next generation headset
will feature "Meta Reality," the company's term for color real-world
passthrough technology.
- Unlike the Quest 2, the Quest 3 will have full-color mixed-reality features, meaning it can reconstruct a 3D view of the real world in color.
- Zuckerberg
said the upcoming headset could "establish this technology as the
baseline for all headsets going forward," and eventually for augmented
reality glasses.
- Previously, Zuckerberg said he expects the Quest 3 to cost $300 to $500, similar to the Quest 2's price of $399 to $499.
- Meta launched its higher-end Quest Pro headset in October for $1,499.99. The collaboration and working device also offers full-color mixed-reality, as well as eye and facial tracking.
