Nintendo sold 8.2 million Switch consoles in the final three months of 2022, a 23% drop from the same time period the year before.

The Japanese company has now cut its Switch sales forecast for its fiscal year ending March. It now plans to sell 18 million of the consoles, down from 19 million.

  • Nintendo said it cut the forecast because the Switch "did not perform as expected" during the holidays.
  • Even with the drop in sales, the Switch still became the third-bestselling console last quarter, surpassing Sony's Playstation 4 and the Nintendo Game Boy.
  • Since its 2017 launch, Switch has sold more than 122.5 million consoles, placing it after the PlayStation 2 (155 million) and Nintendo DS (154 million).
  • Despite lowering its annual forecasts for hardware and software, Nintendo said it plans to raise salaries for Japan-based employees by 10% to boost its hiring power.

  • Nintendo also announced that its first Direct event will take place tomorrow, Feb. 8, on its YouTube channel.
  • The company is expected to reveal more details about Switch games coming in the first half of this year, including "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom," due out on May 12.
