Microsoft today unveiled an updated version of its Bing search engine that offers a chat function powered by AI technology.

The new Bing uses OpenAI's latest AI language model, which is "more powerful than ChatGPT."

  • Microsoft made the announcement during a surprise event today at its Washington headquarters.
  • “It’s a new paradigm for search, rapid innovation is going to come,” CEO Satya Nadella said.
  • The AI integration with Bing can chat with users and answer their questions in a conversational manner.
  • It's also incorporating AI into its Edge web browser, according to reports.
  • Microsoft's event comes a day before rival Google holds its own event about AI and search. The two tech giants are locked in an AI "arms race" as they seek to dominate the next era of computing.
  • Apple is also entering the fray, as the tech giant is set to host its own AI summit in California next week.

  • In late January, Microsoft confirmed that it's making another multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI, and will continue to provide cloud-computing power to the AI company, which developed ChatGPT.
  • The two firms have renewed their partnership, which will see them collaborate further on AI technologies and products.
  • Nadella has said Microsoft plans to incorporate AI capabilities into "every product."
