New Jersey’s Office of IT recently launched its 2023-2025 IT Business & Technology Strategic Plan, which aims to leverage technology as an enabler of a stronger, fairer, greener economy, quality educational resources, affordable healthcare, more equitable law enforcement, and justice systems and improved transportation infrastructure.

The main focal points include migrating to cloud solutions, building and fortifying more resilient IT systems, and creating a more consistent, streamlined user experience for state websites.

  • New Jersey’s new plan calls for modernizing legacy systems from on-premises to cloud infrastructure.
  • The 20-page document emphasizes the importance of the user experience regarding government websites and technology services, advocating a cohesive end-to-end digital experience accessible for residents across platforms.
  • The plan contains statistics on monthly cloud usage among state government agencies, revealing that both Azure and AWS monthly cloud usage has grown steadily since 2020. Notably, the number of provisioned cloud accounts for government agency customers has increased 50% YoY, with additional growth projected in the coming years.
  • The plan points out that this government strategy is primarily driven by business needs and priorities rather than technology.
