Nvidia CEO bullish on AI

Nvidia announced an AI cloud service for customers to access its AI supercomputer capabilities through web browsers.

Nvidia is launching the "DGX Cloud" service with cloud providers Microsoft, Google, and Oracle.

  • The "AI as a service" is intended to offer more intense computing power for enterprises to develop their own AI models amid the growing enthusiasm around ChatGPT.
  • Enterprises that sign up for DGX Cloud can access Nvidia AI services and GTX machines for AI processing, helping them develop chatbots and more.
  • The announcement on Wednesday was shared alongside Nvidia's Q4 financial results.
  • During the earnings call, CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that AI is now at an "inflection point," and companies are keen to incorporate generative AI technologies into their businesses.
  • Huang said the DGX Cloud offers enterprises "access to the world's most advanced AI platform." He described Nvidia AI as "essentially the operating system of AI systems today."

Nvidia chips power AI:

  • Nvidia GPUs, or graphics processing units, are used to train large language models.
  • According to UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri, it took 10,000 Nvidia GPUs to train OpenAI's ChatGPT.
  • Nvidia has 88% of the GPU market, making it far more dominant than AMD, Intel, and other players in the creation of deep learning workloads.
  • It also claims 95% of the market for GPUs used for machine learning.
  • Huang said more businesses are buying Nvidia's chips to develop AI software.
  • This dominance could help insulate the company against the slowdown in the gaming market.
