Open-source software provider Red Hat has partnered with Oracle to bring its Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Both companies announced this news on Jan. 31.

  • The collaboration aims to enable customers to migrate their RHEL workloads to Oracle Cloud. RHEL supports a wide range of enterprise workloads, thus giving Oracle a competitive edge with larger hyperscalers.
  • Both companies are regarded as competitors and therefore share a customer base. Red Hat claims that 90% of Fortune 500 companies use products from at least one of the two companies.
  • The partnership is said to provide greater flexibility by allowing customers to move their workloads back and forth between RHEL and Oracle Cloud. Additionally, users have been given the option to contact either vendor for technical support.
