U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is preparing a cabinet reshuffle.
The overhaul will include the appointment of a new Conservative Party chair after Nadhim Zahawi was ousted from the role on Jan. 29.
- Officials
told cabinet ministers on Monday that Sunak is preparing to overhaul
the cabinet, reports Reuters, citing a source familiar with the matter.
- The move comes after Sunak axed Zahawi as chair of the Conservative Party after he failed to publicly declare that his tax affairs were under investigation.
- Sunak
is under increasing pressure to reconsider his appointment of Dominic
Raab as Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary due to Raab's
alleged history of bullying.
- The
U.K. premier may also split up the government department for Business,
Energy, and Industrial Strategy due to a lack of satisfaction with its
performance.
- The department could be divided into two separate offices, one for energy and another for business and trade.
- Sunak reportedly plans to create a new science and digital department.
