Microsoft's latest update to Windows 11 adds the Bing chatbot to the search box of the operating system running on PCs.
The feature is only available to Windows 11 users who signed up for the Bing AI preview.
Through the update, Microsoft users who have pre-existing access to the Bing chatbot will be able to use it directly in the Windows 11 search bar.
- A Bing icon will be available in the search bar within the user's taskbar, letting them converse with the bot without needing to use the Edge web browser.
- According to Engadget's Devindra Hardawar, "Microsoft is aiming to infuse [the Bing chatbot] into the very core of Windows 11."
- Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's head of consumer marketing, told The Verge that the new Bing in Windows 11 "is a very important feature" as the search box is used by more than "half a billion people on a regular basis."
- Microsoft is also gearing up to demo AI capabilities in Office apps in the near future.
