A British couple has married 60 years after the bride's parents prevented them from tying the knot.

78-year-old Jeanette Steer's parents barred her from moving to Australia with her would-be husband, Len Albrighton, in 1963. She was only 18 at the time, and the age of consent was 21.

Albrighton, who was 19 at the time, moved to Australia by himself and ultimately married someone else.

  • After divorcing 52 years later, Albrighton returned to the U.K. to search for his long-lost love.
  • Albrighton sent Steer a Christmas card and after her husband died, she reached out to him.
  • The pair tied the knot on February 11 and now live in Stevenage, England.
  • Albrighton said the two read poems to one another during their wedding and that they "fell in love again."
