Emmett Shear resigned last week as CEO of Amazon-owned Twitch.
His decision to leave the video game-focused live-streaming platform came ahead of a major round of job cuts expected to affect the company.
Twitch announced on Thursday that Shear would leave his role with immediate effect.
- He will be replaced by company president Dan Clancy, who reportedly worked closely with his predecessor.
- Shear co-founded Twitch in 2011, and in 2014, the platform was acquired by Amazon for almost $1B.
- Twitch increased its focus on live-stream shopping following the acquisition.
- Shear left the company days before Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced a new round of layoffs expected to affect Twitch and Amazon Web Services.
