Funding for female founders on the rise in Europe

European startups founded or co-founded by women raised $1.1B (€1B) in venture funding so far this year, per Pitchbook.

They closed nearly 269 deals, representing 24.4% of the overall deal count and 19.4% of the total capital deployed. The increase is very small compared to last year. European Women in VC founder Kinga Stanislawska said, "Until AUM is allocated to female and diverse asset managers on the VC level, we cannot expect much change for female-led and co-led startups."

Stanislawska said that empowering women VCs is critical as it will create a trickle-down effect to boost the capital deployed in women-led startups.

  • "It has been proven that women are three times more likely to invest in other women," added Stanislawska.
  • Female-only-founded startups secured 1.6% of the total capital, up from 2022's figures of 0.9%.
  • European startups led by both female and male founders secured 17.8% of the total capital deployed this year, up from last year's tally of 11.8%.
