GlobalData's latest report shows that 3,198 global AI startups secured $52.1B in venture funding in 2022.
While overall venture funding dipped by nearly 41.8% in 2022 compared to the previous year, the AI sector saw a decline of only 4%.
Anduril Technologies, Anthropic, and Black Sesame Intelligent Technology secured the highest fundraising amount of the year, raising $1.5B, $580M, and $500M, respectively.
- GlobalData's lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said, "The subdued VC funding activity in the AI space seems to be for short-term while long-term prospects are likely to be promising and the rebound in both deals volume and value in Q4 2022 could be seen as an indication of it."
- VC funding deployment into the AI sector declined quarter-on-quarter for six consecutive quarters until Q3 2022.
- Deal value and count witnessed a rebound in Q4 2022 as investors' interest in the sector was piqued due to the emergence of generative AI tools.
