Language-learning app Duolingo unveiled a new paid subscription tier that adds two chatbot features powered by GPT-4.
Duolingo Max includes the new AI features "Explain My Answer" and "Roleplay."
"Explain My Answer" lets users ask the company's owl-themed chatbot, Duo, to explain why their answer was right or wrong, as well as seek examples and/or further clarification about their responses.
- The second feature, "Roleplay," lets users try out their new language conversation skills in various scenarios, such as ordering food at a French cafe.
- In the latter tool, users chat with a GPT-4-powered bot, which provides feedback about their responses and offers tips to improve.
- Duolingo Max costs $29.99 per month or $167.99 a year. It's currently only available to English-speaking users in the U.S. who are learning either Spanish or French on its iOS app.
