Rescuers in Massachusetts saved a well-known bald eagle.

The large raptor had become ill in a local cemetery after eating a poisoned rat.

Rescuers found a female bald eagle, known as MK, in a cemetery in Arlington, Massachusetts on Monday.

  • The bird was taken to Cape Cod hospital after showing signs that it was unable to fly.
  • Exam results carried out the next day revealed that the bird had fallen ill after eating a rat that had ingested poison.
  • The veterinary team at the medical center administered fluids, oxygen, pain medication, and treatment to resolve a blood clotting problem.
  • MK frequently visits Massachusetts' Mystic River with her mate, KZ.
  • The pair is viewed as a symbol of the region's ecological success story.
