South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics filed for a "Galaxy Ring" trademark with the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) a month after announcing a collaboration with Google and Qualcomm for extended reality (XR) products.
According to KIPO's online database, the products include smart rings, smartphones, and "smart devices for measuring health indicators and/or sleep in the form of a ring."
According to Counterpoint Research, there were around 11 million XR devices in 2021, expected to be 10x in four years to 105 million.
- The South Korean conglomerate said the trademark application is a move to prepare for the future market and does not mean it will immediately launch a new product.
- In 2020, Samsung Electronics applied for a "Galaxy Space" trademark to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
