The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), representing around 750 independent craft breweries in the U.K., has published a sustainability strategy to help independent breweries meet the government's net-zero targets.
The strategy, Brewing Our Way to Net Zero, was launched at BeerX U.K. and included consultation with breweries, suppliers, and others across the U.K.
- According to a YouGov Craft Report consumer poll, almost half of the consumers (48%) consider a brewer's sustainability credentials when choosing a beer.
- SIBA's chief executive highlights that many independent breweries already take positive measures to reduce their environmental impact, but more still needs to be done.
- SIBA has identified six key areas to focus on to achieve net zero for the independent brewing sector by 2045.
- The consultation for the report is open until May 19th to gather feedback and alternative suggestions.
- The government's legally binding targets dictate net zero emissions by 2050, but SIBA aims to achieve this by 2045.
