New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) closed the New York wine and spirits retailer, Sherry-Lehmann, on March 9 after the company failed to renew its liquor license.
The firm's retail liquor sales license expired on the last day of February, rendering all alcoholic sales illegal.
The closure was just one of a series of issues that have beset the store, which also faced tax issues, unpaid bills, and lawsuits from angry customers.
- CEO and co-owner Shyda Gilmer assured staff that a check was being written to the SLA to renew the license.
- The store's shelves had been filled with rows of inexpensive wines and dummy bottles instead of high-quality wine.
- Several key employees have quit, citing bounced paychecks or business practices.
