Tesla could reveal lower cost vehicle

Tesla will host its first Investor Day event today, when it's expected to share details on its third "Master Plan" and a future manufacturing plant in Mexico.

Other potential topics include Tesla's Cybertruck, Roadster, robotaxi, Full Self-Driving, battery technology, and a more affordable electric vehicle.

  • During the event, CEO Elon Musk is expected to present the third part of his "master plan" laying out Tesla's long-term goals.
  • Master Plan 3 will involve "the path to a fully sustainable energy future for Earth," Musk tweeted. The plan will center on "scaling to extreme size, which is needed to shift humanity away from fossil fuels, and AI."
  • According to Reuters, a more affordable vehicle could be the "centerpiece" of Tesla's plan. Musk previously put off the creation of a $25,000 "Model 2" compact EV. Reuters reports that Tesla may announce a revamp of its Model Y at the event.
  • Additionally, Musk is expected to confirm Tesla's plans to launch its Cybertruck this year and build its fifth global car manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, among other topics.

  • The event starts at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT today at the company's Texas Gigafactory near Austin.
  • It will livestream on Twitter and YouTube.
