Trump would run even if indicted

Donald Trump said he plans to run for president in 2024 even if he were indicted.

The former president told reporters on the sidelines of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) that being indicted could actually "enhance" his poll numbers.

  • Trump used combative language during his CPAC speech, saying: "In 2016, I declared: I am your voice... Today, I add: I am your warrior. I am your justice. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed: I am your retribution."
  • Polls show that Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis — who has not yet declared his candidacy for the presidency — are the leading GOP candidates.
  • Trump launched his 2024 presidential bid in November, shortly after the 2022 midterm elections.
  • The Justice Department is investigating Trump for allegedly removing classified documents from the White House.
  • He has also been investigated over efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
  • The Georgia special grand jury investigation into election meddling could potentially lead to indictments against some Trump allies.
