Portions of Twitter's proprietary source code were leaked online, according to The New York Times.
As a result, the company is seeking to identify the user who initially shared excerpts of the code on the software collaboration platform GitHub.
Twitter is asking a court to issue a subpoena to identify the person, who goes by the account name of FreeSpeechEnthusiast on GitHub.
- Twitter filed for the subpoena on Friday at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California
- According to the documents, the leaker signed up on the GutHub platform on Jan. 3 and has only posted the Twitter code.
- GitHub has since removed the data to comply with a copyright infringement claim filed by Twitter.
- Musk previously vowed to open source the platform's tweet recommendation code, which is set to occur this Friday.
