Ukrainian police have arrested a hacker group that specializes in phishing campaigns. The group created over 100 malicious websites.
- The websites offered discounted goods as a way of convincing victims to purchase those goods online.
- Once the users put in their credit card information, hackers used it to target them with fraud campaigns.
- The campaign also used call centers to cold-call people and convince them to visit the websites.
- The number of victims from this campaign is believed to be over 10,000, located in countries such as:
- France,
- Spain,
- Czech Republic,
- Poland,
- Portugal, etc.
- The
two suspected leaders of the criminal group were arrested in Ukraine,
while 10 members were arrested in different European countries.
- According to Ukrainian authorities, the suspects could face up to 12 years in jail.
