Alibaba Cloud recently shared on its website that it will slash the prices for some of its products and services starting Apr. 26.
This is part of a strategy for the Chinese cloud giant to acquire more customers and boost its competitive edge.
The prices for elastic computing services will drop by 15%-20%, while the cost of services running on Nvidia’s V100 and T4 GPUs is slated to drop between 41% and 47%.
- Alibaba Cloud is a key player in China’s cloud computing market, holding 36% of the total market share as of Q3 2022. However, the company faces growing competition from China Unicom, China Telecom, Baidu, and Tencent Cloud.
In late March, Alibaba split into six separate business units that can raise funding independently.
- Daniel Zhang, CEO and chairman of Alibaba Group, stated that this restructuring plan “will empower all our businesses to become more agile, enhance decision-making, and enable faster responses to market changes.”
