Beijing-based search engine operator Baidu called off a launch event scheduled for Mar. 27 and has instead opted for a "closed-door communications meeting."
The event's purpose was to unveil a new cloud service integrated with its ChatGPT alternative known as Ernie Bot.
- Baidu announced this change of plans on the event day, emphasizing that a closed-door meeting was more suitable as potential corporate users could "help clients make better use of the Ernie Bot cloud services."
- The tech giant says that it plans to hold a separate public media event at a later time.
- At its launch event for Ernie Bot earlier this month, Baidu failed to include a live demonstration of the technology. As a result, the company's Hong Kong-listed shares dropped by more than 10%.
- Despite this recent setback,120,000 companies have signed up to test Ernie Bot integrated cloud services.
