Drizly has cut about 100 jobs as part of the company's integration into Uber after Uber acquired the e-commerce platform in a $1.1B deal in 2021. The
move is part of a corporate restructure as Drizly officially begins
integrating certain operations into Uber for a strategically aligned,
centralized BevAlc vision.
- Drizly
stated that it would provide six weeks of paid administrative leave,
four weeks of severance pay, and an additional two weeks of severance
for every year of service with Drizly to those impacted by the layoffs.
- Uber's acquisition of Drizly raised concerns by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) over worries it could impede competition in the online alcohol and grocery delivery sector.
- Uber
merged the resources of Drizly and Gopuff, an on-demand groceries
delivery retailer, following the partnership between the two companies
after acquiring Drizly.
- The combination of Gopuff's warehouses
and physical liquor retailers with Drizly's infrastructure for alcohol
e-commerce provides customers with convenient delivery options for
drinks.
- Drizly announced a new "brand direction and purpose" in November 2022, coinciding with its 10th anniversary.
- Boston-based
Drizly added new features to its e-commerce platform, including new
brand advertising tools and "The Stir," an online drinks magazine, in
late 2022.
