Google to launch first foldable phone

Google plans to introduce its first foldable smartphone during its annual I/O developer conference on May 10.

The Pixel Fold is expected to cost around $1,700 and compete against Samsung’s similarly priced Galaxy Z Fold 4.

  • In internal documents viewed by CNBC, Google claims the Pixel Gold has “the most durable hinge on a foldable."
  • The Tensor G2-powered phone is expected to measure 5.8 inches when closed and fold out into a tablet-sized 7.6-inch screen.
  • The battery will be larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, making it slightly heavier than Samsung's phone, and last for 24 hours in normal mode and up to 72 hours while in low power.
  • CNBC reports Google may also offer a free Pixel Watch with the foldable purchase.
