Google to launch first foldable phone

Google plans to introduce its first foldable smartphone during its annual I/O developer conference on May 10.

The Pixel Fold is expected to cost around $1,700 and compete against Samsung’s similarly priced Galaxy Z Fold 4.

In internal documents viewed by CNBC, Google claims the Pixel Gold has “the most durable hinge on a foldable."
The Tensor G2-powered phone is expected to measure 5.8 inches when closed and fold out into a tablet-sized 7.6-inch screen.
The battery will be larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 4, making it slightly heavier than Samsung's phone, and last for 24 hours in normal mode and up to 72 hours while in low power.
CNBC reports Google may also offer a free Pixel Watch with the foldable purchase.

Also during I/O, Google may announce the budget Pixel 7a phone and Pixel Tablet.
The public beta of Android 1 4, Google's next version of its mobile operating system, is also expected.
Previews for the Pixel 8 series and the Pixel Fold are a possibility.
