Google upgrades Bard to generate code

Google's AI chatbot Bard can now generate, explain, and debug code from 20 different programming languages, the latest upgrade for the ChatGPT competitor. Bard can also export Python code to Google Colab Notebooks and assist with function writing for Google Sheets.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai earned $226M in 2022, including $218M in equities from a triennial stock grant, $6M for personal security, and a salary of $2M. Pichai's compensation places him at the top among his peers in big tech for 2022.

On Thursday, Google announced plans to merge its DeepMind and Brain research teams to create a single unit, known as Google DeepMind, to focus on general AI.

PhonePe, an Indian fintech firm backed by Walmart, is preparing to launch a third-party app store for Android that will compete with Google's Play Store as the American company faces increased regulatory scrutiny in the country.

At the annual RSA conference, Google unveiled its new Cloud Security AI Workbench, which applies generative AI to security using a version of its PaLM model "fine-tuned for security use cases," known as Sec-PaLM.

A Google spokesperson has denied claims that construction of its San Jose campus is on hold due to economic conditions, saying the company is still committed to the 80-acre development for the "long term."

Last week, Google filed a motion with a California federal court to dismiss five claims against it, which include allegations made by Epic Games, Match Group, and U.S. state attorneys that it violated antitrust laws with its app store policies.
