graduated with a nursing degree

Frank Baez, a 29-year-old man who started working as a janitor at NYU's Langone Tisch Hospital when he was a teenager, graduated with a nursing degree from the same institution.

Baez was inspired to join the medical profession after working alongside doctors and nurses.

  • Originally from the Dominican Republic, he moved with his mother to the U.S. when he was 15 and barely spoke English.
  • Soon after, he became a janitor to help support his family.
  • After becoming the first member of his family to graduate from college, Baez entered an accelerated program that allowed him to get his nursing degree in 15 months, passing it with flying colors.
  • He plans to continue studying to become a critical care nurse in an intensive care unit.
