Midjourney's CEO said it's disabling free trials until it has deployed its "next improvements to the system."
Founder David Holz has acknowledged that the company's current safeguards to protect against misuse during the trial haven't been "sufficient."
Previously, the company offered 25 free image generations to users, who will now have to pay $10 per month for a subscription if they want to use the service.
- Last week, a journalist shared fake photos, generated by Midjourney's latest version 5, that depicted former President Trump being arrested by police officers.
- On Twitter, some of the images were viewed millions of times. Shortly after, Midjourney barred users from using text prompts with the words "arrest" and "Donald Trump."
- Similarly, a Midjourney-generated image of Pope Francis wearing a white puffy jacket recently brought in millions of views. It was realistic-looking enough that many viewers thought it was real.
