Spotify discontinues social audio app

Spotify is discontinuing Spotify Live, its equivalent to Clubhouse.

Spotify Live was previously called Spotify Greenroom when it launched in June 2021.

  • In March 2021, Spotify bought startup Betty Labs and, thus, Locker Room, which later became Spotify Live. The acquisition cost Spotify €57M (~$62M).
  • With the decline of the social audio apps and model, Spotify began to cancel Spotify Live's original shows.
  • Even as the app is now being discontinued, Music Ally reports that some of the Spotify Live shows will be converted into podcasts on the main streaming app.
