Sundar Pichai says Google search will "evolve substantively" thanks to LLMs

 

Google's link-based search experience will "evolve substantively over the next decade" thanks to large language models, said Google CEO Sundar Pichai during an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Despite AI launching Bing back into the mainstream, Google still dominates search, controlling more than 90% of the market in the U.S. as of March. 

 

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt says he does not support the six-month pause on AI development proposed by individuals like Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, warning such a move "will simply benefit China." 

The Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF) and Tinder-parent Match Group have asked India's competition commission to investigate Google for failing to comply with an antitrust directive by continuing to charge service fees on in-app purchases.

Last week, a bug led some Google Pay users to receive unintended deposits — ranging from $10 to $1000 — through the app's reward program, with a message indicating the payment was for "dogfooding the Google Pay Remittance experience."

Google Play will soon allow users to redeem Play Points, earned by making purchases through Google Play Billing, for rewards, including Google merchandise and credit for services like DoorDash and Instacart. 

Google will no longer support certain third-party smart display products; the company updated a support page to indicate it won't push any new updates to the Lenovo Smart Display, JBL Link View, and LG Xboom AI ThinQ WK9 Smart Display.

MySmartPrice and OnPrice have published leaked photos of the Google Pixel 7A, expected to be officially announced at Google's I/O event next month, showing that the phone shares a similar appearance with the previous model, except for a new pale blue color.
