U.K. authorities announced an investigation into Amazon's $1.7B acquisition of iRobot.

U.S. and EU competition regulators are increasingly wary of large firms buying their smaller rivals.

  • Amazon announced in August last year that it would acquire Roomba vacuum cleaner maker iRobot.
  • The deal is currently under investigation by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
  • The U.K.'s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Tuesday that it had launched a "Phase 1" probe into the acquisition.
  • The regulator said it must decide by June 16 whether the Amazon-iRobot deal will reduce competition in the U.K.
  • Amazon told Reuters that the company is working with national regulators as they probe the deal.
