Ukrainian refugees have volunteered to help with tornado relief efforts in Mississippi.

All of the refugees who volunteered arrived in the United States within the last three months.

At least 26 people died and many were left homeless after Mississippi was hit by a series of tornadoes last Friday.

  • Seven Ukrainian refugees who recently arrived in Minneapolis will travel to Rolling Fork, Miss. on Tuesday to help with relief efforts.
  • The group will travel with the nonprofit American Service, which has helped over 80 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion settle in the Twin Cities.
  • The organization's Ukrainian Director of Operations, Sofiia Rudenko, is also a recent arrival to the U.S.
  • Rudenko noted that people in America "helped me to establish here," and said she and other Ukrainians "want not only to take but also to give back."
