what do you see as the biggest benefits of cloud computing

What happened: The Polk County, Florida, Building Division migrated its workloads from on-premises to cloud-based Accela solutions and has since reported major benefits in terms of performance, efficiency, customer service, and productivity. One notable example is how moving to the cloud enabled the Building Division to implement the use of automatic permitting, making it much easier and faster for customers to obtain construction permits.

Why it matters: According to Deloitte, more government organizations are adopting cloud technologies due to the costliness associated with maintaining legacy systems and a need for greater efficiency. Despite this trend, cloud experiences have been found to vary among public sector organizations. In fact, a higher number of federal IT leaders are dissatisfied with their organization’s cloud experience than satisfied.

What the numbers say: Research from multiple sources shows that cloud computing benefits different organizations in many ways. A White Paper from IDC reveals that among 560 global business leaders, their top three biggest benefits from cloud computing were increased efficiency (48%), quick deployment (44%), and support for collaboration tools (44%). In terms of public sector organizations like the Polk County Building Division, research from Deloitte found that the top three reasons why government organizations opt for cloud migration are cost reductions/savings (45%), improved organizational efficiency (43%), and expanded data-sharing capabilities (42%).

Brands that should care: Companies that offer cloud computing services, specifically cloud giants like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, should follow the cloud adoption trends and develop products and solutions that solve the issues pertaining to a government organization’s negative cloud experience.
